I-House Welcomes Shobhna Mohn ’95 to the Board
International House Board of Trustees Elects Shobhna Mohn ’95 to Join the Board
At the recent meeting of the International House Board of Trustees on October 29, Shobhna Mohn ’95 (née Goyal) was elected to join the Board. A graduate of Columbia Business School and Delhi University, Mohn recently retired as Chief Strategy Officer from Bertelsmann Investments, an international network of funds and a division of the media, services and education company, Bertelsmann. Mohn began her career at Bertelsmann in the Corporate Development department in 1996. From 2002 to 2006, she headed the Investor Relations department for financial market communications. In 2006, she moved to the then newly founded ‘Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments’ (BDMI) fund and took over the management of its office in Gütersloh, Germany at that time with a focus on investments in Europe. Since 2012, while at Bertelsmann, Mohn has led the corporate strategy for expansion in markets such China, India, Brazil, Southeast Asia and Africa. She was also part of the Group Management Committee which advises the Bertelsmann Executive Board on various topics related to growth and transformation.
As an I-House resident, Mohn served as a Resident Assistant—first, on an all-women’s floor in the South Building and then, as the sole Resident Assistant for I-House North. Mohn also worked in the then-Development & Alumni Relations Office and served as a member of the Women’s International Leadership Program. She was a regular at weekly ballroom dancing lessons and floor dinners when she was a resident. Mohn is also one-half of a Sakura Sweetheart couple, having met her husband, Christoph Mohn ’94, at a dinner organized by a fellow I-House North resident.
“As an alumna of International House, I am confident that Shobhna Mohn will be a great asset to our Board of Trustees,” said Sebastian Fries, President & CEO. “She brings a unique perspective to the Board and will be able to help carry out our mission of fostering cross-cultural understanding and open dialogue and finding common ground as we embark on our second century.”
“We are delighted to welcome Shobhna Mohn as a member of the Board of Trustees,” said Amb. Frank G. Wisner, Board Chair. “Her experience as a businessperson on the global stage, and as an alumna who knows the House so well, makes her uniquely suited for the role, and we look forward to working with her to achieve International House’s goals in the years ahead.”
“I am honored, humbled and excited at the opportunity to be able to serve International House as a Trustee,” said Mohn. “Living at I-House not only provided a home and a rich global community, adding way more to my learning while at Columbia Business School, but it also significantly enabled and enhanced my New York City experience. I look forward to giving back and serving the I-House community in this capacity.”
