I-House Holiday Gift Guide
As you consider all the giving you may do this year, we hope that International House makes it to the top of your list! Helping to create such a meaningful experience for our talented and curious Residents could be the best gift you give this season! As for the other gifts you’re planning, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite ideas, each with a nod to our global community, our shared history, and our vibrant traditions.
“Come from Away” Companion Book $50 The hit musical “Come from Away” was written by Alumni couple David Hein ’03 and Irene Sankoff ’03, who experienced 9/11 while living at International House. They reflect on that time and mention the House in this book.
Cherry Blossom Gift Set $14 The springtime bloom of cherry blossom trees in Sakura Park is a highlight of the year, and this lovely gift set captures a bit of that beautiful time.
Air-Pop Popcorn Maker $39 No more burnt popcorn in the microwave–a smell our Resident Council has been working hard to get rid of but one that reminds many Residents of I-House.
Rediscovering Travel $26 Travel writer Seth Kugel visited International House earlier this year to speak with Residents about how to get the most out of traveling when you are “globally curious.” His book offers some great tips on how to create your own moments abroad in the era of online reviews and social media.
Miele vacuum $700 In June of 2019, Alumni reuniting in Germany were impressed with their tour of the Miele Appliance Factory organized by International Trustee and Alumna Karin Zinkann ’57, whose family owns this wonderful company. They all put Miele appliances on their wish lists after seeing the operations and engineering that go into them.
Little Passports Subscription $15/month Give the next generation of global leaders–ages 6-10–a chance to experience other cultures without leaving home, and make sure to tell them to live at International House someday!
Ukrainian Scarf $15 These beautiful scarves are often seen on Residents serving Ukrainian food at our annual All Nations event (previously known as “Night of Nations”), and they are the envy of the world when worn at Cultural Hours!
Leontyne Price Christmas Album $14 Alumni often remember when opera legend Leontyne Price ’52 would sing at International House. Hear her voice as she sings beautiful seasonal music on this album.
“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” DVD $4 Burl Ives ’39 got his start singing folk songs in Sakura Park, and went on to voice “Sam the Snowman” in this Christmas Classic.
Air Mail Stationery Set $10 Generations of International House Residents used paper like this to connect across the globe. Who could you write to on this nostalgic set, and what friendships could be continued across the globe with a letter this season?
